Crash closes Highway 96 near Sheridan Lake
Update: The Kiowa County Sheriff's Office reports that one person has died following Saturday's crash. The identity of the person has not been released.
A crash Saturday morning closed Highway 96 east of Sheridan Lake in Kiowa County. The westbound lane was reopened shortly before 10:00 a.m. to alternating traffic. Kiowa County Sheriff Casey Sheridan reported that the highway was fully reopened around 10:40 a.m.
The Colorado Department of Transportation reports that the head-on crash closed the highway in both directions while an investigation takes place and debris is cleared from the roadway. The partial closure is at mile marker 202, about five miles west of the Colorado-Kansas border between Kiowa County roads 72 and 75.
The Colorado State Patrol, Kiowa County Sheriff’s office and Kiowa County Fire Protection District are at the scene. CSP reports there are injuries, however the number of victims and their conditions have not been made available.
