“Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Colossians 3:13

What nice warm fall days we are having in southeast Colorado. We drove to Haswell to be vendors and shoppers at the Haswell Bazaar Saturday. Robin Musgrave was a good helper to help organize my boxes for Kit Carson Trinity Lutheran Church and to help me with shopping. Lunch was served by Michelle Nelson, the organizer of the annual event. Besides the local vendors there were three booths from families from Karval. Marla Darnell has wonderful clothing and housing accessories. We loaded up on wonderful baked goods and candies from Glenda Stoker and the Kiowa County Ambulance crew, represented by Brandi Thompson and Amy Barton. Local vendor Pam Lesenden had her lovely array of jewelry, and Mary Shafer offered many treasurers for sale. It was gratifying that so many ladies came over from Eads and local ranches to shop and to visit. We understand how important it is to support our local community centers in Haswell, Eads, Sheridan Lake, and Towner. We often host funerals, meals, wedding parties, and community events in those community centers.

My sister was pleased to receive a photo of the Eads-Cheyenne Wells football game Friday night from her daughter and husband, Kristi and Phil Hirsch, from Manhattan, Kansas, who were in Eads looking for me. I was either in the gymnasium watching the Eads Lady Eagles win hard-hitting volleyball matches or watching the football game from the street, which was a close one.

During the volleyball games I had a good visit with Debbie (Price-Howe) Baker. She had driven from Pueblo to watch her eighth grade granddaughter, Kennedy Guyrman, play volleyball. I liked to hear about her sons, Brad and Ryan Howe, and grandchildren. She showed me photos of her sister-in-law, Marilyn Baker’s, home by the ocean and beach on the east coast. We appreciated all the trips she and Ken Baker made to come to the all-school reunion committee meetings. She told me how it happened that the committee came to give me that gorgeous crown and the honor title of “Miss EHS.” I haven’t been able to bring myself to write about it because I feel so surprised and meek. But I want to say, and to write, that I feel so blessed to have lived these 85 years to be an Eads High School student, and then educator and counselor. I had such wonderful, fun, gratifying experiences and memories. I do love the memories of my many student friends throughout the years from teaching and counselling from 1959 to 2002. I have such a good life. It is more difficult for me at times because of dealing with post-polio effects, but my health is fairly good, and I am a tough, positive little lady who is living a joyful life!

Ashley Decker is the new Eads High School cheerleader coach. We are glad that she is willing to take on this important responsibility since Alicia James found that it was difficult to balance the high school schedule of games, and teaching the second grade.

People were curious, asking, ‘’who is the smiley high school girl named, Tan Nygyen?” Her parents operate the Traveler’s Lodge near JJ’s Restaurant.

Bob Miller celebrated his 92nd birthday at Prairie Pines Assisted Living Center with his children and some other family members. Bob is great to visit with. I am so impressed that he walks to the dining room to do chair exercises! How many of us who are younger take time to do our exercise?

The ladies at Kit Carson Trinity Lutheran Church are planning their annual Lutheran Women’s Missionary League fall rally for Sunday, October 23. Ladies are welcome to come at 12:30 for lunch and Bible lessons on the “Tree of Life.” We will have gospel singer Breanna Echols, as well as a take home crafts, and exchange prayer partners for a year. The event will end at 4:30 p.m.

There were three funerals last week of friends in Kiowa County. Bless the hearts of my dear neighbors, Bill and Charlotte Woelk. They went to all three in Eads, Cheyenne Wells, Lamar, and Sheridan Lake for Roger Bentley, Liz Rehfeld, and Theresa Weber. October 22, many of us will go to Candi Walker’s funeral. Her mother, Dorothy (Dottie) Beeson, was a dear-to-me student. My best memory of Candi is how she often talked about “my son.” I met him, Taylor, the day she died. He is a handsome young man with such a sweet spirit.

It is wonderful to have Betty Crow is back in town. She came to the Weisbrod Hospital Auxiliary meeting. Betty was so surprised when she asked Jaton King who she was. She replied, “Jaton Wallace, our new activity director.” Then Betty said, “Oh, you used to live near me!” Jaton gave us an interesting report on resident activities. Linda Tropser, Weisbrod Hospital Bazaar chair, updated us on plans for the bazaar, which will be held November 19. Linda also treated us with fall napkins, lots of candies, and a Cutie orange.

There have been a few antelope hunters around the county this year. Several young people have bagged their first antelope this season.
