“A friend loves at all times.” Proverbs 17:17

Last Sunday evening the Down East Boys, a Southern Gospel group who has returned to Eads for 30 years, sang at the Praise Community Church. They are especially good friends of Jimmy and Amanda Brown, and so enjoy visiting at their country home and ranch. Many of us never tire of hearing their uplifting gospel songs about God.

Tuesday morning, when we were having a Bible study at Weisbrod Hospital, we saw three Weisbrod Auxiliary ladies - Linda Trosper, Alice Glover, and Cleta Enlehardt - walking around judging the fall decorated doors so the Auxiliary could give Eads Bucks to the top three prize winners. Weisbrod staff decorated the doors and, as I cruised around Thursday, I saw many wonderfully decorated office and department doors decorated upstairs and downstairs. Thank you to Jaton Wallace and Linda Hopkins for their work to facilitate the decoration of our fine facility.

While over at Prairie Pines Assisted Living Center, they not only have decorated doors, but there are big decorated pumpkins outside each of the 20 doors. One lady told me, “They decorated my pumpkin sleeping because I sleep a lot.” Violet Lane Snyed told me that they have organized an Auxiliary which will meet on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. They do welcome men and women to come to help them with projects to make life even more pleasant at the Pines. Their fundraiser is to buy a pie! Just call their chef, Christina Wolf, at 719-438-2141. They may have a table at the Weisbod Bazaar November 19 to take orders also.

There was a large group who dined at the monthly noon Eads senior center dinner. Thanks to the generous man who paid for the steaks that Gail Voss breaded and fried for us. Gail, and we, appreciate the men who have donated money to help pay for meat in the past. Gail’s budget was cut some at the county level. The next brunch is November 3, and the noon meal November 16, for which Marsha and Pam Mousel brought us three turkeys. This is a tradition which Joe Schmitt (Marsha’s father) began years ago. We appreciate Kenny Wilcox for building us a podium, and David Englehardt for installing new blinds.

At the quarterly Town of Eads Victims Assistance Law Enforcement board meeting, we had two interesting guests who told us about their roles in their jobs. Kailey (Lane) Meardon works primarily in Kiowa and Prowers County in her job with the Southeast Mental Health office. There are so many youth with problems now. Some feel that these problems have a lot to do with lack of parenting skills. The good news, we were informed, is that people can get this training in person or virtually by contacting staff at the Social Service office in Eads. Mr. Brian Williams, our future sheriff, is eager to attend the VALE board meetings and to coordinate with us in situations when we can make a payment after a crime within the city limits.

There was a big crowd of fans at Eads High School Thursday evening to watch junior high football outside, and tremendous volleyball inside. Although McClave High School is ranked second in the state, the Eads girls played strong, exciting matches. Betsy Barnett is usually the announcer at all the games. We do commend her for lending her service and talent. I admire her professional style and sound.

Alice Jean Fetty of Kit Carson died October 16. She is the cousin of Ernie Hammer of Wild Horse and Wanda Lessenden of Arlington.

Future Farmers of America instructor Justin Lenox announced the winners of the Creed Speaking contest. Gold winners were Tailee Weeks-Johnson and Kara Wilson; silver winners, Lexi Shotton and Karsten Buller; bronze winners, Shane Winder, Jaden Self, and Kolton Specht. Kara and Tailee will represent the Eads chapter at the district contest.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes was hosted at the Praise Community Church in Eads after athletic practice Wednesday evening. There was food for lots of junior and senior high schoolers, plus the sharing of God’s word and singing. The next night, up at Kit Carson following the games, was parent night and the silent auction for the Tragedy Fund. The youth met at Trinity Lutheran Church to enjoy sloppy joes made from beef donated by Andrew and Joanie Mitchek.

Joey’s Taco food truck will be at the roadside park in Eads Mondays and some Wednesdays. Check Facebook or call Jose Hernandez. I heard that they have unusually tasty tacos with attractive condiments and garnish.

A huge thank you goes to Remington Brandt, who repaired the United Methodist Church’s elevator. Remington is an electrician. He and his wife, Cammie, and two little children recently moved here from Canon City. Their new home is the former Durrett home, more recently Jeannie Whitmire’s home.

The Eads girls handily won the junior high volleyball tournament in Kit Carson Saturday.

“My Crossroads” is a new program available in the county for adolescents or adults who need help or a program to overcome an addiction. Call 800-304-3758 or visit crossradstp.org

I am so very thankful to Brandon Hoffman and Nick Bernard, who finally were able to release me in my van from the power chair lock with a crow bar Friday. I am glad it was daytime, and the Hoffman 911 Shop was open! Living joyfully, now.
