“Let us not become weary of doing well, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest, if we do not give up.”
Tim Hier’s memorial and luncheon was held Saturday morning at the senior center with Pastor Mark Imel officiating the service. Thank you to Gail Voss, Sylvia Weeks, Mary Engelhard, Areta Laird, Charlotte Woelk, and others who brought food and warmed the hearts of Tim’s Nebraska and Iowa relatives who came.
We were blessed with sunny warm weather Saturday afternoon, for when I came home from the senior center, most of the ladies in our home were on the patio enjoying the warm sun. Later, I saw sixth grade student Decca Brown outside offering the ladies something from a pink tray. When she came knocking at my door, on the tray was the beaded jewelry that she makes. Decca allowed me to choose two for my twin niece and nephew, Willa and Wyatt.
Sunday afternoon, Edith Koeller’s family and some friends from near Sheridan Lake came to celebrate with her and eat some birthday cake and visit. There was a crowd of friends in the lower patio enjoying the warm sunshine and visiting as well as taking lots of photos. Later, Brenda Leon and the dietary staff set out an array of finger foods and large pizzas from Love’s convenience store for us to enjoy for the Super Bowl game televised from California. A lot of the ladies here were happy when the Seattle Sea Hawks won over the New England Patriots. All the potted plants and sets were impressive. However, there were a lot of negative comments about the halftime show - questionable language, body motions, and implications.
Many Eads seniors and visitors enjoyed a wonderful brunch last Thursday morning. The monthly lunch will be March 18 at the Eads Senior Citizen Center. Card players enjoy playing card games so much that they decided to play every Tuesday night. Bingo games are on the first Sunday night at 6:00 p.m.
Trista Tuttle hosted her grand opening February 8 at her lovely Country Elegance shop, which presents beautiful works of art, lovely fresh flowers and arrangements, and plants. This shop is in the F & J Building, across the street south of GN Bank. The title of the building stands for Faye and Jimmy Bendorf, who were Trista’s husband, Chad’s, grandparents. Chad is a descendant of the owners of the historic largest ranch between Pueblo and Kansas City, which is just across the fenceline that borders the Eads city limits and the area of the Love’s truck stop that has been referred to more recently as the Addington-Stoker Ranch.
We who are friends and relatives of Duane and Brenda (Addington) Stoker are grieving this week since Duane’s last Thursday. It has been so utterly painful to watch how Duane has suffered the last few months. His funeral service will be held February 13 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Eads, where Duane and Brenda were faithful members so many years. It has been heart-warming to see Duane and Brenda’s friends who have come to visit and support them. Their former neighbors and church friends, Wally and Phyllis Mosher, visited and spent time with them.
Watch for the results of the large Knowledge Bowl hosted in Eads this week. This is a huge undertaking for Eads to host. I know I can speak for veteran organizer and educator, Dawn James, who is grateful to her fellow staff members for helping to serve and work in all the rooms where students came to compete from many counties in eastern Colorado for a chance to compete in the Colorado State Meet soon.
Semester grades were distributed last week during parent-teacher conferences. Denise Nelson’s Future Business Leaders of America hosted an evening money-making meal Thursday evening. We here at Weisbrod so appreciated her student club when they visited us in December and decorated our dining rooms and hallways, and they took time to visit with us.
Did you read about the Eads sixth grader students who collected the most non-perishable foods to donate to families and persons in need of food in our county? Thank you to these generous and kind Eads students, and their home room teacher!
Terry and Areta Laird recently took their granddaughter, Kinzi Laird, to the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum, which they enjoyed.
We extend our sympathy to the families related to Janice (Eder) Pfingston who died during the weekend. Janice was the teacher of ceramics classes at the Eads Senior Citizen Center for many years. She was an avid horsewoman whose daughters and several grandchildren have become outstanding in the rodeo area and their ranching occupations.
The Sheridan Lake Bible Church was so glad to have a guest speaker at their church Sunday from Brazil. The speaker was the daughter of “Aunt Bonnie,” a single lady the church family has supported for years. Bonnie adopted four children when they were young. Charlotte Woelk told me that there were two girls and two boys. Now they are young adults.
Sandie Ritchie Maltbie has fallen and broken her hip and a femur. We are glad her brother, Jerry, was nearby and could help her where she lives in Lamar.
Do support your local school games. I hope you can go to your local gym if possible. In the meantime, we are pleased to get to watch our local teams on the television subscription.
