“Be and compassionate, to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32 NIV

Last Thursday morning was memorable for us at Weisbrod Health when our activity directors organized an outdoor fashion show for us. Brenda Leon bought clothing at the local Salvation Army store for each resident which they could wear and keep. Linda Hopkins kept cool drinks served at the outdoor tables, which were warm in the sunlight. Brenda guided the models down the slopping runway - the ramp. Dreama Buck spontaneously did a sparkling job of narrating the garments on be the resident models as well as staff members and people who came from the community. I especially remember Debra Gooden, who modeled a black blouse and a pretty white flared skirt. Deborah is one who remembers how special it is for us residents to have people in Thursday mornings for an hour or less to have coffee and a little refreshment at 9:30 a.m. We would like to revive that custom that was hit by the COVID years. In past years, visitors used to look at the newspapers with us, visit a bit, and have treats. So, we invited friends and relatives to drop by occasionally Thursday mornings. Debbie Gooden is so gracious to visit us. Other people I remember who modeled were young Teller Eder and her brother, Liam, who ended his modeling by doing a backwards flip high in the air! He amazed us! Tinley Reedy of Lamar, who is a CNA nurse here, escorted her great grandmother, Betty Kay Clark, down the long ramp. Both looked lovely as they always do. Tinley, who has been one of our speedy, very capable young nurses here, started a new job in a doctor’s office in La Junta this week. We really do miss this young lady. Some of the staff joined in the fun also. We are so grateful for all our blooming plants. If anyone would like to volunteer to come to help water them with a hose, it would be a blessing to Brenda, Linda, and us.

Church time at about 2:00 p.m. is something some of us really look forward to. Since the fifth Sunday hasn’t been filled with a pastor for some time, it was a pleasure to have two men from a Lamar church, Ron Manring and Markus Abitea, came to visit us. Ron’s message was about serving others on the theme of the word “mold.” After singing to Markus’ music, Ron gave us each two colorful strips of clay in a zip lock bag to “play with” or mold into an object.

After that nice service, I quickly rolled to Trista Tuttle’s Country Elegance store to attend the baby shower for Morgan and Chris King. After refreshments and games, we watched as Morgan opened gifts, and her husband wrote notes about the gifts for their later reference.

Many churches and friends are praying for Delisa (Eikenberg) Weeks, who has not been well for some time. We are praying for a matching liver donor to come available.

Bobbi Jo Lord and her daughter, Kailyn, gave us a pleasant surprise Monday morning on the veranda. They brought a pet Corgi dog, several bunnies, and a large bronze female rabbit. Some residents really do like to hold animals.

We have a nice new physical therapist, Jared Smith, who has joined the Eads team and is helping set up more therapy nooks until they can move into the new facility.

Brenda has introduced a new exercise hour for us, which we think is a grand idea for every adult. I didn’t realize that one could benefit so much from exercise when you are old - older. I am so amazed that even in a short time that I have grown stronger. A person can follow instructions on YouTube on the television. I challenge you to take time for yourself and grow stronger.

Today I saw Mie Lan Lening pushing a resident in a wheelchair when we went on our weekly “Walk and Roll” about town. I didn’t realize she was employed at an office in Weisbrod. We certainly do enjoy her son, Brently, who works here this summer break from his college in Florida.

Did you see a photo of the Collins branding crew at the former Don Collins ranch west of Kit Carson? It is mainly managed by Don’s grandsons and great grandsons. The branding needed about 40 or more people a day for four days to brand hundreds of cattle, as well as a big menu for cooks and helpers to prepare daily.

Terry and Areta Laird had a nice trip to Shawnee, Oklahoma, to the Potawatomie Indian Pow Wow. Areta especially enjoys gathering with her mother, June Blooding’s, tribal people.

Carol Roberson Wilson’s funeral was in Salina, Kansas, recently, where she had lived for years. Her parents were Bev and Ula Roberson of Arlington.

JaNae Voss and her new husband came to visit her grandmother, Terry Voss, last weekend. They were also going to her younger brother, Milo’s, birthday party north of Haswell.

Remember the Eads senior citizens’ noon lunch July 16.

People in southeast Colorado were eager to experience July 4 events. I plan to share more next week.

God bless America!
