Ag stats: December 2021 mountains states grain stocks report

ARIZONA 

Off-farm corn stocks in Arizona on December 1, 2021 were 3.00 million bushels, down 17 percent from December 1, 2020, according to the December 1 Agricultural Survey and December Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. Off-farm all wheat stocks in Arizona on December 1, 2021 were 4.31 million bushels, down 4 percent from last year. Other Arizona grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations. 

Capacity of off-farm commercial grain storage in Arizona totaled 18.00 million bushels on December 1, 2021, down 5 percent from December 1, 2020. 

COLORADO 

All corn stocks in Colorado on December 1, 2021 were 103.44 million bushels, up 10 percent from December 1, 2020, according to the December 1 Agricultural Survey and December Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. All corn stocks stored on farms amounted to 63.00 million bushels, up 15 percent from a year ago. All corn stored off farms amounted to 40.44 million bushels, up 4 percent from a year ago. Off-farm oat stocks in Colorado were estimated at 19,000 bushels, down 73,000 bushels from last year. Off-farm sorghum stocks totaled 7.46 million bushels on December 1, 2021, up 16 percent from a year ago. Off-farm soybean stocks totaled 149,000 bushels on December 1, 2021. 

All wheat stocks in Colorado on December 1, 2021 were 39.49 million bushels, up 23 percent from December 1, 2020. All wheat stocks stored on farms amounted to 9.30 million bushels, up 7 percent from a year ago. All wheat stored off farms amounted to 30.19 million bushels, up 29 percent from a year ago. Other Colorado grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations. 

Colorado’s on-farm storage capacity totaled 170.00 million bushels on December 1, 2021, unchanged from the December 1, 2020 estimate. Capacity of off-farm commercial grain storage in Colorado totaled 136.00 million bushels on December 1, 2021, unchanged from December 1, 2020. 

MONTANA 

On-farm oat stocks in Montana on December 1, 2021 were 450,000 bushels, down 57 percent from December 1, 2020, according to the December 1 Agricultural Survey and December Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. Off-farm oat stocks totaled 41,000 bushels on December 1, 2021. Montana barley stocks in all positions on December 1, 2021 were 18.11 million bushels, down 56 percent from a year ago. Barley stored on farms totaled 9.90 million bushels, down 68 percent from last year, and the lowest Montana December on farm barley stocks since 1952. Off-farm barley storage was down 22 percent from a year ago to 8.21 million bushels. 

All wheat stocks in Montana on December 1, 2021 were 85.88 million bushels, down 46 percent from December 1, 2020. All wheat stocks stored on farms amounted to 54.00 million bushels, down 53 percent from a year ago. All wheat stored off farms amounted to 31.88 million bushels, down 26 percent from a year ago. All Durum wheat stocks on December 1, 2021 were 8.42 million bushels, down 60 percent from a year ago. Durum wheat stocks stored on farms amounted to 7.00 million bushels and Durum wheat stored off farms amounted to 1.42 million bushels. Other Montana grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations. 

Montana’s on-farm storage capacity totaled 320.00 million bushels on December 1, 2021, unchanged from the December 1, 2020 estimate. Capacity of off-farm commercial grain storage in Montana totaled 90.00 million bushels on December 1, 2021, unchanged from December 1, 2020. 

NEW MEXICO 

New Mexico grain stocks on December 1, 2021 were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations. 

Capacity of off-farm commercial grain storage in New Mexico totaled 12.50 million bushels on December 1, 2021, down 7 percent from December 1, 2020. 

UTAH 

All corn stocks in Utah on December 1, 2021 were 1.01 million bushels, according to the December 1 Agricultural Survey and December Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. Off-farm oat stocks totaled 18,000 bushels on December 1, 2021. 

Off-farm all wheat stocks in Utah on December 1, 2021 were 3.79 million bushels, down 37 percent from December 1, 2020. Other Utah grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations. 

Capacity of off-farm commercial grain storage in Utah totaled 18.00 million bushels on December 1, 2021, unchanged from December 1, 2020. 

WYOMING 

Off-farm barley stocks in Wyoming on December 1, 2021 were 2.63 million bushels, down 4 percent from December 1, 2020, according to the December 1 Agricultural Survey and December Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. Other Wyoming grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations. 

Capacity of off-farm commercial grain storage in Wyoming totaled 11.00 million bushels on December 1, 2021, unchanged from December 1, 2020. 

UNITED STATES 

Corn stored in all positions on December 1, 2021 totaled 11.6 billion bushels, up 3 percent from December 1, 2020. Of the total stocks, 7.23 billion bushels are stored on farms, up 3 percent from a year earlier. Off-farm stocks, at 4.41 billion bushels, are up 4 percent from a year ago. The September - November 2021 indicated disappearance is 4.70 billion bushels, compared with 4.74 billion bushels during the same period last year. 

Grain sorghum stored in all positions on December 1, 2021 totaled 289 million bushels, up 32 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks, at 29.5 million bushels, are up 38 percent from December 1 last year. Off-farm stocks, at 260 million bushels, are up 31 percent from a year earlier. The September - November 2021 indicated disappearance from all positions is 179 million bushels, down 2 percent from the same period in 2020. 

Oats stored in all positions on December 1, 2021 totaled 55.5 million bushels, down 11 percent from the stocks on December 1, 2020. Of the total stocks on hand, 18.5 million bushels are stored on farms, down 36 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks totaled 37.0 million bushels, up 10 percent from the previous year. Indicated disappearance during September - November 2021 totaled 6.55 million bushels. 

Barley stored in all positions on December 1, 2021 totaled 97.6 million bushels, down 34 percent from December 1, 2020. On-farm stocks are estimated at 43.1 million bushels, 49 percent below a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 54.5 million bushels, are 14 percent below December 2020. The September - November 2021 indicated disappearance is 37.8 million bushels, 23 percent above the same period a year earlier. 

All wheat stored in all positions on December 1, 2021 totaled 1.39 billion bushels, down 18 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks are estimated at 273 million bushels, down 43 percent from last December. Off-farm stocks, at 1.12 billion bushels, are down 8 percent from a year ago. The September - November 2021 indicated disappearance is 384 million bushels, 16 percent below the same period a year earlier. 

Durum wheat stored in all positions on December 1, 2021 totaled 43.0 million bushels, down 30 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks, at 16.9 million bushels, are down 57 percent from December 1, 2020. Off-farm stocks totaled 26.1 million bushels, up 15 percent from a year ago. The September - November 2021 indicated disappearance of 3.00 million bushels is 68 percent below the same period a year earlier. 

Pulse crops stored in all positions on December 1, 2021 are: dry edible peas, 6.02 million cwt; lentils, 2.87 million cwt; all chickpeas, 3.64 million cwt; small chickpeas, 743 thousand cwt; and large chickpeas, 2.90 million cwt. 

The United States on-farm storage capacity totaled 13.5 billion bushels on December 1, 2021, up less than 1 percent from the December 1, 2020 estimate. On-farm grain storage capacity includes all bins, cribs, sheds, and other structures located on farms that are normally used to store whole grains, oilseeds, or pulse crops. 

Capacity of off-farm commercial grain storage in the United States totaled 11.8 billion bushels on December 1, 2021, up 1 percent from the December 1, 2020 total. Off-farm grain storage capacity includes all elevators, warehouses, terminals, merchant mills, other storage, and oilseed crushers which store whole grains, soybeans, canola, flaxseed, mustard seed, safflower, sunflower, rapeseed, Austrian winter peas, dry edible peas, lentils, and chickpeas/garbanzo beans. Capacity data exclude facilities used to store only rice or peanuts, oilseed crushers processing only cottonseed or peanuts, tobacco warehouses, seed warehouses, and storage facilities that handle only dry edible beans, other than chickpeas/garbanzo beans.
