The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin the second phase of bridge maintenance in southeast Colorado Monday following the winter shutdown. The project will take place in Kiowa and Baca counties at several locations.

Operations begin in Kiowa County on Highway 287 eight miles north of Eads at mile marker 112.5. That portion of the project will be followed by activities 14 miles south of Eads at mile marker 100.5, as well as mile markers 32.2 and 22.1 north and south of Springfield in Baca County.

The project includes removing concrete pavement, flow filling, resetting bridge rail and sealing and waterproofing the bridge.

Bridge maintenance operations will take place Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., though temporary traffic signals are expected operate around the clock to control traffic using a single lane. Speed will also be reduced from 65 to 40 miles per hour in the work zone. Lanes may also fully close for short periods of time for safety.

In late 2020, the first phase of the project started in November with four locations on Highway 287 in Baca County north of Springfield.

Work is expected to be completed in July.
