The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has established a dedicated phone line and email address for community members to report potential misconduct by personnel at the Costilla County Sheriff’s Office.

The CBI opened the tip lines in connection with an ongoing investigation by the 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. That investigation followed misconduct reports from Costilla County residents and resulted in indictments against the former Costilla County Sheriff, Undersheriff and three deputies.

The tip lines follow the March 26 indictment of the Costilla County Sheriff and four other members of the sheriff’s office on charges including second-degree assault and official misconduct.

Community members are encouraged to use the following resources to submit tips: • Tip Email: cbi_CostillaCountySOComplaints@state.co.us • Tip Line: (719) 631-8550

Callers should leave a message with their name, contact information and their complaint. CBI personnel will monitor both the email and phone lines.

On March 26, 2026, the 12th Judicial District Grand Jury issued indictments charging the Sheriff, Undersheriff and deputies with various crimes, including second-degree assault, abuse of a corpse, official misconduct and failure to intervene. The charges in the indictments are allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
