Cheyenne County trades Friday fog and storms for sunny weekend
Cheyenne Wells starts the weekend with morning fog and a slight chance of afternoon storms Friday before high pressure clears the skies for a sunny, warmer Saturday and Sunday, the National Weather Service forecast office in Goodland, Kan., said. Highs reach the low 80s over the weekend before showers return by Monday.
Friday brings a 20 percent chance of showers before 2 p.m. and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m., with patchy fog before 10 a.m. and a high near 72 degrees. Light south wind increases to 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms remain possible Friday night, with a 40 percent chance mainly before 11 p.m. and a low around 54.
"Scattered showers and storms this afternoon and evening… a few of the stronger storms could produce some small hail and gusty winds," the National Weather Service forecast office in Goodland, Kan., wrote in Friday’s Area Forecast Discussion. The office said conditions turn warmer and dry over the weekend, with wetter weather returning by the middle of next week.
Fire weather conditions to watch Saturday, but no warnings issued
No Red Flag Warnings, watches or advisories were in effect for Cheyenne County as of Friday morning, according to the Goodland forecast office’s latest Area Forecast Discussion. Forecasters did note that relative humidity could drop into the teens over northeast Colorado on Saturday afternoon, though winds are expected to stay light enough to keep conditions below critical fire weather thresholds.
