Custer County crash kills one man, second seriously injured

The Colorado State Patrol in investing a single vehicle crash which occurred shortly before noon Thursday in Custer County and resulted in the death of one person.

According to CSP Trooper Paul Clark, the crash happened on Colorado Highway 69 about 12 miles north of Westcliffe. Two 25-year-old men were in a 1997 GMC Suburban driving north. The vehicle successfully negotiated a right curve, then traveled off the right side of the road. The driver over-corrected, and the vehicle veered back across the road before it overturned down an embankment.

Both men were ejected from the vehicle. The passenger died as a result of the crash, and the driver sustained serious injuries. Their identities have not been released.

Traffic was detoured around the area for about three hours.

The crash remains under investigation.
