A driver has turned themselves in following a hit-and-run crash reported Wednesday near Medicine Arrow Park in Cheyenne Wells, according to the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. Authorities initially asked the public for help identifying a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident.

After the request for assistance was posted on the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office social media page, the driver later contacted authorities and turned themselves in.

Sheriff’s officials said the case is the second hit-and-run reported in Cheyenne County within the past two weeks.

In both incidents, drivers were cited for failing to report an accident. The charge carries a minimum of 12 points against a driver’s license and a court summons, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials said drivers involved in crashes may face fewer consequences if the incident is reported immediately.

The Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office thanked community members who shared the original request for information and provided tips.
