Eads area faces soaking rain, gusty north winds before sunny weekend
Heavy rain and strengthening winds are forecast across Kiowa County on Wednesday and Thursday, with a Flood Watch in effect through Thursday morning, before skies clear and temperatures warm heading into the weekend.
Wednesday brings showers and possibly a thunderstorm, with a high near 64. Northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected, with gusts as high as 40 mph. The National Weather Service gives a 90 percent chance of precipitation and says rainfall of three-quarters of an inch to an inch is possible.
Showers and thunderstorms remain likely Wednesday night, with a low near 52 and north winds around 30 mph gusting to 45 mph. Thursday brings showers, mainly before noon, a high near 63 and north winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Sunny weather returns Friday with a high near 65.
Flood Watch and windy conditions
A Flood Watch is in effect for the Eads area now through noon Thursday. A forecaster with the National Weather Service in Pueblo wrote in Tuesday's Area Forecast Discussion that the system, fed by remnant tropical moisture from Polo, will bring "periods of heavy rain, the potential for flash flooding, strong northerly winds, and high mountain snow across southern Colorado."
Forecasters said precipitation totals across the lower elevations of the Pueblo forecast area should generally range from 1 to 2 inches through Thursday morning, with the highest impacts expected in the southeast mountains. They also warned that northerly winds of 25 to 45 mph Wednesday could bring down trees and possibly power lines because of saturated soils.
No Red Flag Warning is in effect. Clouds and rain are expected to hold daytime temperatures in the 60s across the plains.

Thursday starts wet, with showers likely before noon and a high near 63. Winds stay strong out of the north at 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. Thursday night turns partly cloudy and breezy with a low near 45.
Friday is sunny with a high near 65 and northeast winds of 5 to 10 mph turning south-southeast in the afternoon. The low Friday night is near 44.
Extended outlook
Saturday is sunny with a high near 72 and a low near 47. Sunday is also sunny, with a high near 70, east-southeast winds of 5 to 15 mph and a low near 49. Forecasters expect a warming and drying trend through the weekend.
Motorists should watch for water over roadways and reduced visibility in heavy rain, and avoid driving through flooded areas. Gusty winds may make travel difficult for high-profile vehicles Wednesday and Thursday.
