The FBI requested interviews with U.S. Representative Jason Crow and a group of Democrats in Congress over a video in which they said members of the military and intelligence community should refuse illegal orders from the Trump administration, according to a statement from Crow’s office.

President Donald Trump said in posts on Truth Social that their words were seditious and punishable by death. He also shared a post calling for them to be hanged.

Crow, an Aurora Democrat who is a former Army Ranger, has seen increased threats to his office since the video and Trump’s statements. Trump has continued to post about the video since his initial threats.

The Department of Defense announced Monday it’s investigating U.S. Senator Mark Kelly, an Arizona Democrat, for his participation in the video. Others in the video include U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, U.S. Representative Chris DeLuzio of Pennsylvania, U.S. Representative Maggie Goodlander of New Hampshire, and U.S. Representative Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania, all Democrats.

“No amount of intimidation or harassment will ever stop us from doing our jobs and honoring our Constitution,” Crow, Deluzio, Goodlander and Houlahan said in a joint statement following the FBI’s request for interviews. “We swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. That oath lasts a lifetime, and we intend to keep it. We will not be bullied. We will never give up the ship.”

U.S. Representative Jeff Crank, a Colorado Springs Republican, said in a statement to Newsline that while the video Crow participated in is “shameful, inappropriate, and a threat to our national security,” he does not think his words warrant capital punishment.

“Members of Congress should never be telling our troops to disobey orders from their commanding officers,” Crank said. “However, I do not believe that these actions are punishable by death.”

Crow and the others in the video specified that troops have the right to refuse illegal orders — not any order — under the U.S. Constitution and other legal provisions.
