Lamar and Prowers County begin Friday with areas of frost, then see sunshine and a high near 56, with another freeze threatened early Saturday before temperatures warm into the 70s, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

A Frost Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Friday. Winds are northwest at 5 to 15 mph, becoming northeast in the afternoon. Friday night is clear with a low around 26 and east-northeast winds around 5 mph that become south after midnight.

A meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo wrote in Friday’s Area Forecast Discussion that “another clear cold night” is expected, and that the probability is high the Freeze Watches will be upgraded to Freeze Warnings for locations along and east of Interstate 25.

Freeze watch and fire conditions

A Freeze Watch is in effect for Prowers County from late tonight through Saturday morning. The Pueblo office’s discussion listed a high potential for a widespread hard freeze ending the growing season across the southeast plains during that period.

No Red Flag Warning is in effect for Prowers County, and none is listed in the Pueblo discussion. Winds do pick up over the weekend, with breezy south winds Saturday afternoon and gusts as high as 35 mph Saturday night.
