Look for a round of snow for Kiowa County from Saturday night through Sunday night with some accumulation expected.

It will be colder Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures dropping into the single digits Monday night, and the teens Tuesday night.

Better weather returns for Wednesday through Friday with partly sunny skies and temperatures rebounding into the 40s.

Next weekend is looking dry and partly sunny with high temperatures in the upper 40s. Nothing showing up right now that would bring us snow for Christmas, but I will update you again next week and have some info on what kind of weather we have seen in the past on Christmas Day.

Winter begins officially Saturday night, December 21. It is the day with the fewest hours of sunlight and the longest night of the year. The sun is also now at its lowest point in the sky of the year. The days then start getting longer after the 21st, with the sun setting about 30 seconds later each day. We gain about six minutes of sunshine by the end of December, and 36 minutes by the end of January.

Also, that bright object to the southwest after the sun goes down is the planet Venus. When looking at them, did you know that planets don't twinkle but stars often do.
