Rain moving through Lamar and Prowers County overnight will end by Monday morning, and the National Weather Service expects sunshine and temperatures in the 70s to follow through Wednesday.

Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 4 a.m. Monday, could bring a quarter to half an inch of rain, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Monday should be mostly cloudy at first, then gradually become sunny, with a high near 67. South winds of 5 to 10 mph are forecast to shift to the north in the afternoon.

Monday night will be mostly cloudy with a low around 38. Tuesday should be cloudy through mid-morning, then clear, with a high near 70, and Wednesday is forecast to be sunny with a high near 73.

Dry stretch ahead

Stephen Hodanish, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo, wrote in Sunday's Area Forecast Discussion that "Tuesday through Thursday will be dry," with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s across the plains.

No Red Flag Warnings or other watches, warnings or advisories are in effect for Lamar or Prowers County, according to the Pueblo office. Winds are forecast to stay light, 5 to 10 mph, through Thursday.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Tuesday morning clouds are expected to clear by late morning, leaving a high near 70 with southwest winds of 5 to 10 mph. Tuesday night should be mostly clear with a low near 37.

Wednesday should be the warmest day of the week in Lamar, sunny with a high near 73 and west winds of 5 to 10 mph turning south-southeast in the afternoon. The overnight low is forecast near 37.

Extended outlook: Thursday and Friday

Thursday should be mostly sunny with a high near 70, then mostly cloudy overnight with a low near 43. Friday brings a 20 percent chance of showers and a high near 72, with south-southeast winds of 10 to 15 mph Friday night.

The Pueblo discussion said Friday's shower chances should focus on the San Juan Mountains and possibly the far southeast plains, and that a colder weather system could arrive over the weekend, with its track and strength still uncertain.

Morning drivers should watch for wet roads and patchy low visibility before the rain clears Monday.
