Lamar hits 93 Friday, then rain and a 17-degree cool-down for Prowers County
Friday is the last hot day of the stretch in Prowers County. After a high near 93 at Lamar, a cold front and two nights of showers knock daytime temperatures down 17 degrees by Tuesday, to the middle 70s.
Friday is mostly sunny with a southwest wind of 10 to 15 mph. A 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms lingers before 8 p.m., then skies turn mostly cloudy overnight with a low around 62 and the wind shifting to the west-northwest after midnight.
The National Weather Service forecast office in Pueblo, which covers Prowers County and fire weather zone 236, has no watches, warnings or advisories in effect for the Lamar area, and no Red Flag Warning was posted. With rain chances reaching 80 percent on each of the next two nights, fire danger is not the concern it has been through much of the month.
Rain arrives after dark, twice
Both rounds of rain come overnight. Showers and possibly a thunderstorm move in before 3 a.m. Saturday night, with showers likely afterward, an 80 percent chance of precipitation and a tenth to a quarter of an inch of rain expected. Locally higher amounts are possible in thunderstorms.
Sunday night repeats the pattern, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening giving way to steadier rain after midnight and another 80 percent chance of precipitation. The low Sunday night falls to around 54, roughly 40 degrees below Friday's afternoon high.
Daytime highs follow the rain down: 88 Saturday, 79 Sunday, and 76 on both Monday and Tuesday.

Tuesday turns breezy and mostly cloudy with a high near 76, a southeast wind of 15 to 20 mph gusting to 35 mph, and a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon.
