Lamar weekend warms toward mid 80s under building ridge
Lamar is in for a noticeably warmer weekend, with afternoon highs forecast to climb from the mid 70s Saturday into the mid 80s Sunday under sunny skies, according to forecasters with the National Weather Service in Pueblo.
Saturday is expected to be sunny across Prowers County with light west winds at around 5 mph and an overnight low in the upper 30s. Sunday is forecast to be the warmest day of the stretch, with sunny skies, light west-southwest winds and highs reaching the lower to mid 80s.
Building ridge sends temperatures climbing
A meteorologist with the Pueblo forecast office wrote in Friday’s Area Forecast Discussion that an upper-level ridge will spread eastward into Colorado through the weekend, with continued warming and largely dry conditions across the eastern plains.
“Saturday and Sunday...upper level ridging will spread across Colorado over the weekend with continued warming,” the discussion noted. “Temperatures will warm through the 60s and 70s on Saturday, and into the 70s and 80s for Sunday. With the high pressure overhead, winds will be light across the region.”
Fire weather concerns are limited under the weekend pattern. The Pueblo office’s Fire Weather Planning Forecast issued Friday morning called for “no fire weather concerns through the next several days across the district,” and Prowers County is not currently under any red flag warning or fire weather watch. Even so, residents are reminded that vegetation across the southeast plains can dry quickly when temperatures climb into the 80s.

Looking ahead
The warming trend is expected to peak Sunday before a weaker disturbance arrives Monday and a stronger storm system pushes a cold front south through Colorado on Tuesday. Forecasters say cooler air, a chance of rain showers and the potential for thunderstorms will return to Prowers County early next week.
