For too long, families across House District 47 have been stretched thin by the rising cost of everyday necessities. When you live miles from the nearest big box store, every dollar matters. Since I was elected, I have worked to make sure rural communities are no longer an afterthought in policy discussions at the Capitol.

That is why I introduced the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday. This bill is a practical way to give families a little breathing room during one of the most expensive times of the year. During the last weekend of July, items like clothing and some school supplies would be exempt from state sales tax, helping parents keep more of their hard-earned money.

As a parent, I know firsthand how quickly back-to-school costs add up, especially for families who already drive long distances for work, school, and basic services. This is not about creating a new program. It is about letting families keep more of what they earn and making sure state policy works for the people.

The constituents I serve deserve real relief, not more mandates and higher costs. This bill is one way we can lower the burden on families and make sure our kids start the school year on solid footing. I will continue fighting for common-sense solutions that strengthen rural communities and keep Colorado a place where families can build a future.
