Marguerite Quackenbush (aka Marge or Margie) passed away January 17, 2023, at Keefe Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne Wells. Marguerite was born August 21, 1930, in Fairmount, Illinois. She was 92 years young.

Marguerite had two children and divorced at a very young age. She then married Wayne Quackenbush, an enlisted air force mechanic, January 4, 1951, and they had three daughters.

Marguerite was a waitress in her younger days to help with family expenses. She loved the work and loved meeting most of the people.

Being a military wife, she grew accustomed to moving approximately every two years. In 1965, the family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where Wayne retired from the Air Force after 25 years and ended up working for Nevada Beverage, a Budweiser beer distributor, at which time Marguerite quit working and stayed at home.

Marguerite and Wayne loved to camp, fish, hunt, and pretty much anything involving the outdoors. They spent countless days on Lake Mead in Nevada, camping at Death Valley in California, Lake Powell in Utah and many other places. Various family members and friends would join in on the fun.

Marguerite also like to host "patio" parties for family and friends. Whether it was someone's birthday, holiday, or a super bowl party, she would cook and host a party.

Marguerite didn't know a stranger and would help anyone in need, many times helping the homeless.

She loved her family, which included many fur babies. Her final days were spent with two of her daughters in Cheyenne Wells and her fur baby, Bejou.

She was a very determined, strong and independent woman who didn't like to sit still for any length of time. She was extremely knowledgeable in all areas of life, and the go to person in time of need. She was an unique and giving individual. She was much loved and will greatly be missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Quackenbush; longtime companion, Baley Cox;  mother and father, Ethel Swaney (Whall) and Lowell Swaney; sisters, Rosalie, Imagene and Medra; brother, Gerald; and daughter, Loretta.

She is survived by her sister, Hilma Jacabson; son, Frederick Quackenbush; daughters, Sherry Drescher, Denetta Quackenbush and Denice Schuppel; along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Palm Valley View Cemetery in Las Vegas.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.
