Mary Ann Ure was born in Duluth, Minnesota, March 6, 1926, to Croatian immigrants George and Anna Stipac. She passed away June 12, 2023, in Eads.

A very faithful and devout Catholic, she prayed the rosary daily, and was active in the church. There wasn’t a situation where she couldn’t pray and work her way out of. In her last days, her grandson, Ryan, asked her for the most valuable life lesson. She said the most important thing in life is to trust in God.

After high school, Mary Ann worked at the local bank for several years. She then moved to Chicago and went to work in accounting for Standard Oil. There was an opening in Denver with the company, and she transferred.

She decided her calling was in nursing and earned her LPN degree. Still in Denver, she worked as a private practice nurse with elderly and home hospice care. After marriage, she handled the bookkeeping at the Ure Grain Company in Kit Carson and was a homemaker. When her two boys were well into school, she returned to home health nursing until her retirement.

She enjoyed cooking, and her specialties were her mother’s traditional Yugoslavian dishes and desserts. Her hobbies also included needlepoint and sewing. She created dozens of beautiful, framed pieces, and many of her clothes. Gardening was also enjoyable, and she and Maurice created quite an oasis in town.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice, who she married October 27, 1962; and sisters, Millie Vaydich and Helen Oman.

She is survived by her two sons, Marshall (Robin) and Greg (Paula); and especially her three beloved grandchildren, Ali, Jared, and Ryan.

Donations may be made to the Kiowa County Transit at PO Box 100, Eads, CO 81036.

A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, June 19, 2023, at the St. Augustine Church in Kit Carson. Burial will follow in the Kit Carson Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.
