One dead, one seriously injured in fatal two-vehicle crash at Highway 71 and Highway 94 near Limon
A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 71 and Highway 94 south of Limon, Colorado, killed one person and seriously injured another Thursday, at approximately 5:56 a.m.
Preliminary reports indicate a 2022 Volvo semi hauling a trailer was traveling eastbound on Highway 94 when it failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Highway 71 and struck the passenger side of a 2014 brown Buick Enclave traveling southbound on Highway 71. Both vehicles left the roadway but did not block any lane. Emergency vehicles blocked the westbound lane of Highway 94 during the investigation, with traffic alternating; the road is now fully open.
The driver of the Buick, a 45-year-old male from Model, Colorado, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Lincoln County Coroner will release his identity after notifying next of kin. A 17-year-old female passenger in the Buick was airlifted to a metro area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the semi, a 39-year-old male from Washington state, was transported by ground to a nearby hospital; the extent of his injuries is unknown.
The Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit is the lead agency investigating.
