- Wild Horse Roundup- Curtis Schrimp: The annual end of summer picnic was held at the Hammer Ranch. A lot to eat and ended with homemade ice cream.

- One-lane restrictions for the next 60 to 70 days on 287 starting at the Prowers/Kiowa counties line is part of the 13-mile project to overlay US287 in concrete.
- Rambling Back with Rip- Mina Loy “Rip” Teal: Before I drove into town there was a cloud of rain west. By the time I got to town it had rained out. I guess Kiowa County doesn’t have the market cornered on 12-drop rainstorms.

- Auctioneer Larry Lusher of Lamar was named 1986 CO Auctioneers Association Auctioneer Champion.

- More than 150 people attended the Old-Timers Reunion at the courthouse meeting room after the rodeo. Eleven people born in 1900 were specially honored.

- At Flagler a stunt plane crashed into a crowd killing 20 persons and inuring many others.
100 Years Ago - September 17, 1926
- Kiowa County ceased to be the center of any oil activity when the last of the casing from the Schultz well was shipped to some place in Texas
- Ramond Miller, State Board of Land Commissioners, of Galatea, flew to Galatea to cast his vote in the Primary.
- Sheridan Lake School News: Our new typewriter came and is being kept quite busy by the senior class.
