The Bent’s Fort Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association will hold its next meeting March 9 at the J. W. Rawlings Heritage Center and Museum, 560 Bent Avenue in Las Animas.

Lolly Ming will present a program about the Granada-Fort Union Military Trail.  Lolly has spent many years researching the Military Trail and has lots of fascinating and sometimes little-known facts about it.  Along with the history of the Trail, Lolly will tell us how the trail name came about and the amount of freight that went over the trail.  Lolly will also relate entries from two diaries written by travelers along the trail to locations today.

This will be a unique opportunity to learn about the military trail that crossed Southeastern Colorado in the 1800s.

The presentation is free and open to the public at 1:00 p.m.

The chapter meeting starts at 11:00 a.m., followed by a catered lunch at noon (cost $10).  After lunch. For more information about the meeting, call Kevin Lindahl at 719-469-1894 or LaDonna Hutton at 719-469-2906.

Membership in the Bent’s Fort Chapter is $15 per year.  The Bent’s Fort Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association is a 501c3 non-profit organization, with a mission is to protect and preserve the Santa Fe Trail and to promote awareness of the historical legacy associated with it.
