A Red Flag Warning for Lamar extends through Friday evening as gusty northwest winds and extremely low humidity create critical fire weather conditions. The weekend will transition to mild, sunny weather with warming temperatures climbing into the mid-70s by Sunday.

Friday brings increasing clouds skies and a high near 66°F. Winds are expected to gust up to 45 mph from the northwest, creating the hazardous fire weather conditions that prompted the Red Flag Warning. Prowers County (fire weather zone 236) is included in the Red Flag Warning. The fire weather threat diminishes Friday evening as winds decrease and humidity slowly recovers.

"Fires will catch and spread quickly. Exercise extreme caution with any outdoor burning." Stephen Hodanish, meteorologist with the National Weather Service Pueblo forecast office, warned in Friday's Area Forecast Discussion.

Fire weather caution Friday

Relative humidity has fallen below 15 percent across the region, and strong northwest winds in the wake of an early Friday morning cold front are creating critical fire conditions. Any fire that develops could spread rapidly and become difficult to control. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and extra caution should be used with any potential ignition sources.
