A $4.9 million project to resurface nine miles of Colorado Highway 59 north of US 287 is scheduled to begin in June and conclude in August, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). The work will stretch from Mile Point 0.05 at Kit Carson to MP 9, heading north towards Seibert.
Concrete Concept Designs, Inc. has been contracted for the project, which involves milling the existing roadway and applying a three-inch hot mix asphalt overlay. New striping and signage will also be installed.

CDOT officials state the improvements are aimed at enhancing safety and providing a smoother driving experience for motorists. The project includes improved shouldering as well.
Motorists traveling through the area should expect significant traffic impacts throughout the construction period. Traffic will be reduced to single-lane, alternating flow guided by flaggers, resulting in potential delays of up to 10 minutes. The speed limit within the work zone will be reduced to 35 miles per hour and lane widths will be temporarily narrowed to 11 feet.
Work will take place Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Drivers are encouraged to check https://COtrip.org for real-time travel conditions and road closure information before traveling on CO 59.
