A weather front will bring a good chance of showers and strong north winds to Lamar and Prowers County on Monday, the National Weather Service in Pueblo said. Tuesday looks sunny.

Monday will start breezy, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 p.m. Showers become likely, and a thunderstorm is possible, between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. The chance of rain is 70 percent. The high will be near 65. Rain amounts should be less than a tenth of an inch, though thunderstorms could bring more.

Winds will blow from the southwest at 15 to 25 mph, then turn to the north-northwest in the afternoon. Gusts could reach 45 mph.

Eric Petersen, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo, wrote in Sunday's written forecast discussion that "strong north winds will develop by afternoon behind the cold front" over the eastern mountains and plains.

Windy through Tuesday morning

Monday night turns windy. The forecast calls for north-northwest winds of 25 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph. There is a 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 1 a.m. The low will be near 39.

The weather service in Pueblo said strong winds are expected again Monday, with gusts of 30 to 50 mph, especially on the eastern plains. The office said this may make travel difficult for light and high-profile vehicles on roads that run west to east.

As of 11:30 p.m. Sunday, November 1, no watches, warnings or advisories were in effect for Prowers County. No fire weather watches or warnings were in effect either.
