Colorado Governor Jared Polis and the Business Support Division within the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) have announced a new certification initiative called Certify Colorado. The program aims to help small businesses across Colorado cover the cost of obtaining nationally recognized certifications necessary for acquiring government and corporate contracts.

Certify Colorado will provide up to $2,000 in funding per business toward certification fees, which can range from $250 to $5,000 upfront and include annual recertification costs based on gross revenue. The program is funded with a total of $250,000 approved by the Colorado Economic Development Commission (EDC) and will serve businesses on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Small businesses strengthen our economy, create good-paying jobs, and drive innovation,” said Governor Polis. “By breaking down cost barriers, we can support small businesses and make government more efficient.”

The program requires participants to complete the Certifications 101 Course, have a viable business plan with demonstrated strategic commitment to entering or growing in the government/corporate contracting space, and ensure availability of program funds and certifier capacity. Initial partners include Denver Economic Development & Opportunity (DEDO) and the Women’s Business Enterprise Council - West (WBEC-West).
