The Colorado State Patrol is asking for the public’s help in identifying a driver involved in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a juvenile early Saturday in Pueblo West.

Troopers responded at approximately 2:28 a.m. March 28, 2026, to the 700 block of South Springmont Drive in Pueblo County after receiving reports of a disturbance and a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Investigators said a 16-year-old female was standing in the roadway when she was struck by a southbound vehicle, which then fled the scene. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be a white Lexus sedan of an unknown model, possibly with front-end damage, including to the hood. The vehicle was not displaying registration at the time of the crash.

The Pueblo West incident comes as Colorado is experiencing a sharp rise in pedestrian fatalities. The state recorded 127 pedestrian deaths in 2025 — nearly double the number from a decade earlier — and CDOT reported 12 pedestrian fatalities in Colorado as of early March 2026. State transportation officials have noted that more than 70 percent of pedestrian deaths occur after dark, a pattern consistent with the early-morning circumstances of the Pueblo West crash. Under Colorado law, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury can result in criminal charges and driver's license suspension.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Colorado State Patrol dispatch center at 719-544-2424 and reference case number 2D260517. Callers should be prepared to provide their name and contact information for follow-up by investigators.
