Eads and the rest of western Kiowa County can expect a warm and breezy five-day stretch beginning Wednesday, with afternoon highs climbing from the mid-80s into the low 90s by the weekend, according to the National Weather Service forecast office in Pueblo.

Wednesday brings sunny skies with a forecast high near 84 degrees. South-southeast winds are expected to increase from 5 to 15 mph during the morning to 15 to 25 mph in the afternoon, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Skies turn mostly cloudy overnight, and breezy southerly winds continue into the early hours of Thursday before easing after midnight.

Forecasters at the Pueblo office note that an upper-level pattern over the Western United States is keeping flow across southeast Colorado on the warm and breezy side, with elevated wind gusts a recurring feature through the period. No Red Flag Warnings are currently in effect for the Kiowa County zone, but breezy southerly winds combined with afternoon temperatures climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s mean dry-grass and brush conditions warrant routine caution.

Warmer pattern builds through the weekend

Thursday is expected to be the warmest day of the workweek, with a forecast high near 91 degrees. Skies start mostly cloudy and gradually clear, and there is a slight, 10 percent chance of a brief shower or thunderstorm between 3 and 4 p.m. West winds are forecast around 10 to 15 mph. Friday turns sunny again, with a high near 88 and lighter north winds shifting to east-southeast in the afternoon.

Thursday and Friday

After Wednesday's breezy southerly flow gives way to a brief cool-down behind a passing wave, Thursday and Friday settle into a warmer pattern with lighter winds and mostly sunny skies. Overnight lows hold in the upper 40s to low 50s. Aside from the slim chance of a passing afternoon shower Thursday, dry conditions are expected through Friday night.

Weekend outlook

The weekend brings a continued warm-up, with Saturday and Sunday both forecast to reach near 92 degrees in Eads. Skies stay sunny on both days. Sunday afternoon turns breezy as south-southwest winds increase to 20 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph, and breezy conditions persist into Sunday night. Overnight lows remain near 48 degrees Saturday night and around 46 Sunday night. Residents planning outdoor work or recreation should keep an eye on changing wind conditions and stay alert for the possibility of blowing dust, particularly Sunday afternoon.
