Eads and the rest of Kiowa County are heading into a warm, mostly sunny stretch of weather to start the week, with afternoon highs climbing into the mid- to upper 80s through Wednesday and a brief uptick in winds at midweek before temperatures push close to 90 by the end of the week.

Monday brings sunny skies and a high near 86, with south to southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph, according to the National Weather Service forecast office in Pueblo. Overnight lows are expected to dip to near 47 under clear skies, with light south winds.

Forecasters at the Pueblo office note that an upper-level ridge over the central Rockies is steering the warm, dry pattern, with little chance of measurable precipitation across the plains through midweek.

Midweek wind pickup, but no fire weather watch

Tuesday continues sunny with a high near 84, but a stronger northeast breeze of 15 to 20 mph develops behind a passing surface trough. Wednesday is the warmest of the first three days, with a high near 87 and increasing southeasterly winds of 15 to 20 mph and gusts to 30 mph in the afternoon. No red flag warning is in effect for Kiowa County for the Monday-through-Wednesday period, and the latest Pueblo fire weather product shows no active highlights for the office's coverage area.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Tuesday's daytime temperatures hold in the lower 80s with a breezy northeast wind and mostly clear conditions. Overnight, the low slips to around 45 with east winds of 5 to 15 mph.

Wednesday's warmup is paired with a wind shift to the southeast, with sustained winds of 15 to 20 mph and gusts to 30 mph likely during the afternoon. Skies remain sunny, and the high is forecast near 87. Wednesday night turns mostly cloudy with a low around 50 and continued south-southeast winds of 10 to 15 mph.

Extended outlook: Thursday and Friday

The warming trend continues into the latter half of the week. Thursday is forecast to be mostly sunny with a high near 89 and south-southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph. Friday returns to full sunshine with a high near 87 and winds shifting from the north to the east through the day.

The Climate Prediction Center's 6- to 10-day outlook leans toward above-normal temperatures across Colorado, with near-normal precipitation chances. The 8- to 14-day outlook holds the above-normal temperature signal in place while trending toward below-normal precipitation for the state, suggesting the dry, mild pattern is likely to persist into the following week.

Residents are reminded that even without an active red flag warning, dry vegetation and gusty afternoon winds can elevate the risk of wildfire spread. Outdoor burning and any activities that produce sparks should be approached with caution, particularly Wednesday afternoon when winds are strongest.
