Wind, warmth on tap for Eads as week heats toward 90s
A breezy spring afternoon and a steady warmup are in store for Kiowa County through the rest of the work week, with the National Weather Service expecting daytime highs to climb from the mid-80s on Wednesday into the lower 90s by Friday and Saturday before a cooling trend arrives early next week.
Eads will see sunny skies Wednesday with a high near 84 degrees. A south-southeast wind of 5 to 15 mph is expected to strengthen to 15 to 25 mph in the afternoon, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Skies turn mostly cloudy after dark and the low will settle near 53. Wind remains breezy overnight at 20 to 25 mph from the south-southeast before easing after midnight.
Forecasters with the Pueblo office of the National Weather Service note that a passing upper-level disturbance could touch off a brief shower or thunderstorm late Thursday afternoon along the eastern plains, but the probability of measurable rain at Eads is only about 10 percent. The remainder of the period is dry.
Warming trend builds through the weekend
After the gusty Wednesday, winds settle on Thursday as a westerly flow pushes highs into the low 90s. The Pueblo office is forecasting a high near 91 in Eads on Thursday, climbing to 88 on Friday and 92 on Saturday and Sunday. Overnight lows hold in the upper 40s to low 50s.
Sunday brings the next round of breezy conditions, with afternoon south-southwest winds of 20 to 25 mph and gusts to 40 mph ahead of a cold front. Behind that front, a sharp cooldown is expected early next week, with Monday highs only in the low 70s and a brisk north wind.

Thursday and Friday
Thursday morning starts mostly cloudy across Kiowa County before skies clear by midday. A west wind of 10 to 15 mph keeps things comfortable, and the daytime high is expected to reach 91 degrees in Eads. A slight chance of showers or a thunderstorm exists between 3 and 4 p.m., though most of the area will stay dry. Thursday night drops to around 50 under partly cloudy skies.
Friday turns sunny again with a high near 88 and a north wind 10 to 15 mph shifting to east-southeast in the afternoon. Overnight lows fall to near 49 under partly cloudy skies.
Weekend and Sunday wind
Saturday looks to be the most pleasant day of the period, with sunshine and a high near 92. Light morning south-southeast winds keep the day calm before another spring system arrives Sunday. Highs Sunday remain near 92, but a strengthening southwesterly wind 20 to 25 mph and gusts to 40 mph will return blowing dust and elevated fire concerns to the southeast plains.
Residents with outdoor plans this week should plan around Wednesday and Sunday afternoons, when winds will be strongest. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use caution on U.S. 287 and Colorado 96, and burn restrictions remain in effect for unincorporated Kiowa County. As always, the National Weather Service in Pueblo recommends checking the latest forecast at weather.gov/pub before traveling.
