Hello folks! As the month of July turned into August, the Extension Service, 4-H members, and youth have been sweating to get ready for fairs across the state. The last week in July, I traveled to Springfield to judge leathercraft at the Baca County Fair. That Friday I attended the Cheyenne County Fair to judge the Round Robin show. As a new agent, this was a great experience for me, as I got to see how other counties work and the vast number and variety of projects out there.

So, you joined 4-H and you bought yourself your first animal to show at the county fair this year. But now what? What do I feed? How do I clip? What should I do in the show ring? These are all thoughts that have run through every showman's minds at one point in their career.

This year Prowers County 4-H held their first ever mini livestock boot camps. These were held June 11- 13 with each night being a different pairing of species all the way from rabbits to market cattle.  

In the spirit of giving, Prowers County 4-H members participated in a community service put on by the 4-H county council officer. This year 4-H members assisted in putting together twenty-four fleece blankets for Lamar and Holly nursing home residents. The members also designed Christmas cards to give to each resident who received a blanket. The blankets were completed in record time by nine members, so there was even time for holiday games. 

Over $10 Million Raised for Ag Youth in 36 Years

The 54^thColorado's Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Junior Livestock Sale at the Colorado State Fair has come to a close. According to preliminary totals, the 2017 sale accumulated approximately $502,525 from generous buyers supporting the state's agricultural youth. 

Posted below are the results for Kiowa County 4-Her's whom qualified to show at the state fair.  We are extremely proud of these kids are their accomplishments!  If you would like to see these exhibits plus all the others done by our top-notch 4-Her's, come out to the community building during the fair!

If you weren't at the Crow-Luther Cultural Events Center on Thursday, July 13^th, you missed out on the Bent, Kiowa, and Prowers 4-H Fashion Revue.  4-H kids from each county brought in their clothing projects to be worn and judged before a great crowd of supporters. 

On June 8, 2017, some of our Kiowa County 4-H members traveled to Rocky Ford to participate in the District VI Creative Cooks & Cake Decorating Contests.  This is an annual event that involves 4-H members from all area counties.

The 2017 4-H year is in high gear and is projecting to be one the best yet!  Everyone has their project books and getting a jump on their projects from clothing construction, food & nutrition, livestock, leathercraft, heritage arts, and shooting sports to name a few.
