Tricks, Treats and Tiaras Coming to LCC

Three Halloween events are coming to Lamar Community College on October 30 and 31: Princess Day at the Cosmetology Salon, Treat Street, and the LCC Cosmetology's Halloween Party.

Princess Day will be held in conjunction with Treat Street again this year and is set for Monday, October 30, from 3:00-5:00pm in the Salon. 

Princess Day is a completely free event for children in the area.  LCC Cosmetology students will braid hair and give a quick nail polish to help kids complete their Halloween look just in time for Treat Street that evening. 

Annual Colorado W.I.F.E. Convention Held in Lamar

Colorado Women Involved in Farm Economics (WIFE) held their annual state convention in Lamar, Colorado on October 6, 2017 at the Lamar Community Building. The convention business meeting began just after 1 pm with Colorado WIFE President Cathy Scherler, Sheridan Lake, Colorado, calling the meeting to order. Several members were in attendance and guest speaker Colorado State Representative HD 64 and WIFE member Kimmi Lewis from Kim, Colorado joined the meeting later on.

Seven Named to President’s List at LCC for Perfect GPA

Seven Lamar Community College students recently earned their place on the prominent President's List by completing the summer semester with a perfect 4.0 GPA, including Kylie Bennett (Wiley), Sabrina Brewer (Hasty), Dominique Cardinelli (Hasty), Kaylee Fox (Hugo), Yadira Ramos Barraza (Lamar), Chloe Santos (Laredo, TX), and Kyndra Smith (Wiley).

LCC President Dr. Linda Lujan praised their hard work and dedication.

Biennial event set to return to Lamar Community College September 29-30

Travel back in time this fall at the Frontier History Encampment, set for September 29-30 at the Lamar Community College campus.  Visitors will see history come to life through expert first-person historic interpreters who create a walk-through immersion into the 19th century. 

The Encampment will be open to the public on Friday, September 29, from 12:00-5:00pm and Saturday, September 30, from 9:00am-5:00pm. 

LCC Rodeo Team Preps for 2017-2018 Season

The Lamar Community College Rodeo team is working hard and looking forward to the 2017-2018 season. The team participates in ten rodeos within the Central Rocky Mountain Region: five in the fall and five in the spring. 

This year's roster is comprised of 20 members including 12 on the women's team and eight on the men's.

"Our women's team will be led by two good returners, Tacie Canfield and Ashten Marchant," LCC Head Rodeo coach Fred Sherwood said. "Both were seated in the top ten in the region in their events, so they should do well this year."

Accelerated Online Courses at Lamar Community College

Three sessions of online courses are still available this fall at Lamar Community College.  LCC is offering over 200 late start online courses in ten or six-week formats that are currently open for enrollment.  This means anyone interested in taking a course or two can complete them in a shorter period of time while working around their existing schedule.

Death Notice - Elva L. Root

A celebration of life for longtime Lamar resident, Elva L. Root will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the Crosswinds Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Roy Gueswel officiating. Interment will be held at the Eads Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2017. 

Elva was born on August 8, 1935 at Stevens County, Kansas to Floyd and Grace (Gregg) Bevan and passed away on August 30, 2017 at her home in Lamar with her family by her side at the age 82.
