Lamar-based Golden Plains Insurance Agency, Inc. has announced another expansion with the acquisition of Baxter Agency in Eads. The purchase was completed April 5, 2022.
Marilyn Baxter established Baxter Agency in 1989 to successfully serve clients across southeast Colorado from her office at 101 East 15th Street in Eads. Golden Plains is also acquiring that building, and has hired Haley Reedy to continue providing exceptional service in Kiowa County.
Golden Plains Insurance is once again proud to announce its annual scholarship award. In recognition of the Golden Plains Insurance Agency's 10-year anniversary under the ownership of Nick Palmer, this year the company will be awarding a $2,000 scholarship for the 2021-2022 academic school year to a deserving 2022 high school graduate with a desire for successful completion of higher education, either academic or vocational.
Applications are available to students at any of the three offices located at
Residents of Prowers, Baca and Kiowa counties will have access to a Lamar Community College education without needing to travel to the main campus.
Dwayne Louis Baxter

Dwayne Louis Baxter was born to Louis A. Baxter and Imogene (Short) Baxter May 27, 1936, in Friona, Texas. Dwayne passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at the Southeast Colorado Hospital. He was 84 years old.
Dwayne was raised on the family farm near Friona until they bought a ranch and moved to Chivington in 1948.
He spent his teen and young adult years in Chivington and Eads, growing up with his four brothers and many friends.

Graveside services will be held at the Springfield Cemetery in Springfield, Colorado, Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 2:00 p.m.
Doyle C. Tucker, Jr.
January 5, 1940 - May 16, 2021
Doyle was born January 5, 1940, at Springfield to Doyle Clifford and Evelyn Elisabeth (Osborn) Tucker, Sr. and passed away May 16, 2021, at his home in Lamar at the age of 81.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Elden Doyle Tucker; and his siblings, Delmar Tucker and Theda Keys.
The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin the second phase of bridge maintenance in southeast Colorado Monday following the winter shutdown.
