“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:2
The prayer focus for this day is for “Compassion to help those in need.”
The word “hospitality” caught my eye because I had just read the article in the newspaper showing some photos of Megan Herran’s home. Part of her home is furnished to accommodate people who are visiting for a short time here to rent. The article suggests for a wedding, funeral, or reunion times when people could rent this lovely space. some may remember it as the pink Herzog house or where David and Diane Crow lived, about a half block from the school on Maine Street. Megan has been involved in a few fun and meaningful projects to make Eads a better place to live since she moved back home from Denver.
We watched with great interest the launch and the flight of the Artemis II space flight around the moon. It is just so awesome to think about and try to comprehend all the scientific studies, practice hours, planning, and money that went into this massive ten day flight around the moon last week.
Here at Weisbrod, we have been enjoying all week bouquets of flower arrangements that were designed and made by local florist, Trista Tuttle, for the funeral of Melody Richardson. Melody was dear to the hearts of her large family of Eads, and friends in Lamar, where she lived for a number of years in Southeastern Colorado home care and Hospice.
Dawn James sponsored her Eads High School civics class to tour the Colorado State Capitol last week. This is an unforgettable experience for most students. Senior Tailee Weeks-Johnson was excited to see the top of the state capitol where her grandmother, Delisa Eikenberg Week’s, flag flew on honor of her work with the State of Colorado after her death recently.
We are just so excited to follow the Eads girls golf team, which has been winning many meets and making good scores. The five girl team is coached by Justin McCloud. I suppose many readers visualize the girls teams wearing pretty little short skirts and outfits for golfing, but that is not usually the case here in chilly eastern Colorado. Did you see the photo where the team was dressed in dark long thermal sweat suits up at Wray? Peyton Eder won the championship in the junior varsity tournament with a 58. Reece Barnett, a freshman, won the championship of the varsity teams by shooting a 1 under 69.
Our Eads girls golf team had two more golf tournaments last week. We heard reports that they won those meets, and that Reece was in the top two winners.
This is the first year in history that there have been traveling baseball teams in junior high school.
Jose and Julianna Ramos sent an email to me with photos of their trip through Yosemite National Park in California. It is so gratifying me to see our students graduate, go to a college PR-type job training, and then get married and have good jobs, travel ,and have a good life, which hopefully may include children.
Ozztella and I had such a delightful experience last Tuesday when Brenda Leon arranged for us to have lunch with our third grade “adopted grandchild.” My main hostess was my current third grade “grandchild,” Caroline Buck, who is my great-grandniece. To my surprise and pleasure, several young students who had been my “grandchild” in the last three years gathered around my table to eat and visit. That was so kind of the third grade teacher, Charlene Gifford, and the other teachers. I was so surprised to see how much some of the students had grown. Over the noon hour, all the younger grades were there, and they were so well behaved. How precious they are. Mothers and fathers, board members, citizens of Eads, commissioners of the county, and all leaders, I ask you, plead with you, to continue to guard these precious students of all ages. We have been blessed in our past history to have fine schools. Let’s protect them, and our school system, so that we can grow better and maintain what we have.
Here is a major change in scheduling: the traditional Hospital Week is going to be May 4-8.. There will be activities all week, ending Friday evening with an outdoor meal. People of the community and nearby are welcome to come visit and watch some of the entertainment. There may be some job openings if one is interested and can fulfill the expected qualities.
Senior citizens are welcome to attend the senior noon dinner April 15. One can sign in and leave a donation or bring a dish for the basket dinner a noon. That evening, there will be a basket dinner at the Haswell Senior Citizen Center.
April 16 there will be a coffee hour at 2:30 p.m. We would like to revive the tradition of a weekly coffee hour like we had before the Covid days. A similar coffee hour is held at Prairie Pines Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m.
Again, let’s pray for rain!
