What a good scripture of advice from James 1: 19 for our daily lives to live by. Let’s do read it and think about it as we talk and reply to other people in our daily lives.

This week our lives in Kiowa County around Eads, I am so pleased to tell you that we did get two rains that left puddles. We have been praying for rain for so long because some of my family members who are farmers and ranchers have been very dry. So that means many of our friends in this area are in the same situation. I say all the time, ‘There is always hope.’

Did you see the front cover of the Kiowa Press for July 29? Jeanne Sorensen took a lovely photo out south of town below Prairie Pines Assisted Living Center? It is such a beautiful photo of Jackson’s Pond with pretty greens trees, bushes flowing water that looks like a river and a winding stream of water. Many of us didn’t realize that there is such a lovely area in Kiowa County. In the fore ground. The bank looks dry but I’m confident it will look greener soon. We do thank the kind retired men of Eads who have been going out to pick up trash, mow and rake.

I heard that the last Eads Maine Street Bash of the summer was the largest ever. The music of Brady Nichols of Scott City, Kansas, as great! And the Donte Sierra Cancer Benefit Corn Hole was large and successful. All the food and drink food vendors offered terrific foods.

Monday, the Kiowa County 4-H members had their County 4-H Fair at the Eads Senior Citizen building with an evening fashion show and awards program. Then they plan they had an auction of food items that the members had made. You can see their projects exhibited at the Kiowa County Fair. Krystal Eikenberg brought several Fair Books up to us at Weisbrod. The county fair is September 9-12.

You may have noticed some signs about town ad advertising chances to win family seasonal tickets to all ages of ball games in Eads. Thank YOU to the wonderful young women who setup this drawing for some fortunate people. Those special ladies are: Riki Cordova, Jessica Sierra, Whitney Barnet, Kayla McLoud, and Braylynn Eder. We had a nice visit in the small dining room last week. Doug and Viola (Wissel) Chandler visited with Viola’s former neighbors Phyllis Nelson and her daughter, Marie Watts. Doug and Viola still have their older home in Eads where they have occasionally stayed during their working years in and around Greeley. Doug seems to like his first experiences in country life. They have moved a new home, garage, and shed to her childhood farm site northwest of Eads. Doug said he is having fun driving a tractor, and making a big garden.

I was delighted to have Betsy Bergman Evans come to visit me Wednesday morning. She also came to show me her quilt that won Grand Champion at the Cheyenne County Fair last week. Her sister from of Burlington and from Cheyenne Wells helped Betsy to piece her lovely design this summer. She is planning to take this lovely gift to Betsy and Roger’s granddaughter, Jessica , who is to be married in Texas in November. The Bergman’s sisters’ brother Chet and his wife Marty, had a surprising 3 and one half inches rain last Tuesday night. They live near McClave. We are glad for them because we have heard that it has been very dry over there.

One of the Weisbrod Health employees we enjoy so much is Alessandra Paez, a graduate of Eads High School and a sophomore at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado. She is a college athlete on the women’s soccer team and the Summer League in Lamar. We will miss her since she begins her college training and team traveling August 3.

The construction of the new medical clinic is well under way with a deep hole and new water line being dug and set. The loud noises and quick moving machinery is interesting to watch.

Reese Barnett donated her time and golfing experience of putting last week-end to help people who are suffering from cancer. I confess that I don’t know much about golfing except that it is a challenging and fun game. Reese and others donated their time for cancer donations to help contestants to earn money to help pay for their care.… This golf tournament was organized by the SECI organization. This is the first annual golf tournament for the organization, but they plan to put on more in the future. Reese is on the Eads high golf team so she enjoys these challenges and helping good causes.

Celena Lessenden Clark came to visit me last Friday. I was so glad to see my niece and to hear about how her daughter’s 4-H projects did at their county fair. Eve and Elkly won top prizes in Fashion Show, Leathercraft, and third several other projects.
