“And they came, bringing to Jesus a paralytic man carried by four men. And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him. And when they had made an opening, let him down on the bed on which the paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Mark 2:3-5
The scripture above was one chosen by one of the Eads graduating seniors. I have observed some of those seniors in life and in church, so I see their hope and belief in the Lord Jesus. I can assure you, Readers, that their faith helps a person live their lives more peacefully as a believer when we see these teenagers have faith.
We started our weekend out strangely here in Weisbrod Health Extended Care Friday evening after dinner in a “lock-down” in the hallway since that is the “safe” place to be during a tornado watch. After about a half hour we were glad to go back to our bedrooms and to bed.
Friday afternoon some of the residents and staff and family members had fun out in the courtyard with wet “rainbow” rain races.
Many of us are going to miss watching the July 4 Parade. It was so fun to see the children and youths participate, going down Eads Maine Street and around to the Courthouse to the park by the railroad and elevators. There were food and games and the play yard equipment or people to enjoy. I like to watch the trucks of wheat that were brought to the Elevator. However, the last I heard no one had stepped forward to organizing it anymore, and because of the drought there is very little wheat in our county.
Hearts of many people in the Eads community have been rather heavy the last two weeks for the life and health of Donte Sierra and his wife, Chrystal, and sweet little girl, Amara, as he has had surgery for stomach cancer and what that might mean for their future. Please remember that there is a Benefit BBQ Supper for him at the Eads Fair Grounds Community Building next Saturday, July 11, at 6:00 p.m.
Friday, July 3, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Johnny Leon will be singing in the Horseshoe Park just south of the Independent Newspaper building. People mostly sit on the south side and can enjoy Billy Brandt’s mural artwork painted on the side of the building facing south. Right behind will be the beer garden. The people sit on the brick wall, or grass, or bring folding chairs to hear the singers. Johnny Leon comes from Tribune, Kansas, where he works for the school. We enjoy western songs.
I am so very grateful and thankful to my friend, Gail Voss, who drove my van with my power chair to Colorado Springs to be evaluated and “fixed.” Although I may have to have it returned for more adjustments, at least I have less pain and more freedom in my purple power chair. I do thank my many friends who prayed for my dilemma last week.
Terry and Areta Laird visited relatives in Colorado and Oklahoma on their trip to the Potawatomi Indian Powwow.
Thank you to John Negley for his kindness to older people. He is so thoughtful to give ladies and men rides to and from Weisbrod Health and Prairie Pines Assisted Living Community to visit friends or family, and even sometimes he gives people rides to cities for doctor appointments.
Our families are eager for the safe return of Eve Clark from Belgium near France to come by way of Canada to New York. Eve is Dwight Lessenden’s granddaughter who belongs to a 4-H Club in Pueblo County.
Parents of young children and teenagers and their fans have been especially busy in June as they have been playing lots of baseball and softball and of course T-Ball games several nights a week. Many are in Eads but a lot are in Lamar and some other towns. All the T-Ball games are in Lamar.
The High School Baseball for Class 1A rankings have been announced, and the Eads team had several outstanding young men. First Team was: Ayden Hough—Eads, Kielen Mallard—McClave. Honorable Mention—Karsten Buller—Eads, Dominic Horning—Stratton, Von Isenbart—Stratton, Cory King—Holly, Gunner McKay—Springfield, Mason Marriott—Cheyenne Wells of Kit Carson, Nelson Netter—Stratton, Trevin Smith—Cheyenne Wells, and Gary Stearman—Stratton, and both of Eads—Jonathan Vasquez—Eads and Shaine Winder—Eads.
The Eads 12U Majors have been winning consistently, as have the Eads Girls 10U-and-under, who have been mostly undefeated. Also, the 8U-and-under have been undefeated. Thank you to ALL the COACHES who are mostly parents or young adults. The lights at the ball fields are on most nights at one or both fields.
Saturday was a big day at Kit Carson where many people traveled to be at the Community Building to celebrate Joel Maxey and his wife, as they celebrated and honored Joel for all his years of life as the Kit Carson banker. Joel and his wife raised their four boys in Kit Carson and sent them off to their careers. Since their home church is the Baptist Church here in Eads, they are dear to many Eads residents too.
Friends, please pray for rain in Colorado.
