This has been one of my favorite scriptures for many years. It also reminds me that God is with me wherever I am.

My notebook about the Kiowa County Fair was so full of notes that I couldn’t get them all typed for last week. So, I want to start with some notes on other happenings or people who came to our great county fair that I may not have shared last week. Doris Kelley, wife of the late Rob Kelley, of Lakewood came down to the fair mainly to visit Betty (Kelley) Crow. After visiting us in the dining room at Weisbrod, she took Betty to the fairgrounds Saturday. They viewed all the exhibits, especially the ones Betty and other residents had entered. She enjoyed visiting family and friends while she was here.

Friends of Matt and Claire Prince and their son, Charlie, were so glad to see them. They had driven all the way from Tennessee to visit the fair and to take more belongings back east with them, although we wish they could still live in Colorado. They had good reports about their eldest son, Colin, in college at William & Mary.

Marci (Norton) Abrams was guiding and checking on her daughter and a friend from Sheridan Lake who were selling nice items they had made for people to wear. Their booth was just under the grandstands.

Linda Dent from Lamar had a very large booth area under the grandstand. She had many lovely items for sale.

Marla Darnell of Eads and Kit Carson had a large booth area. Marla was in Montrose, in the Colorado mountain valley area, where she sold her popular items at that well-known rodeo and festivities.

Molly (Stolznberger) Rosler and her mother-in-law had a great booth with reasonably priced T-shirts for sale under the grandstand also. You could look at numerous designs, and they would just press it on the shirt you selected right then!

It was great to see my brother, Dwight, enjoying his granddaughters, Eve and Elkle, while I visited with his daughter, Celena, near the project exhibits. Her daughters had winning project exhibits and fashion show ribbons.

I appreciated the recorded music during the county fair breakfasts. Actually, I like it better when we had live music artists like my cousin, Phillip Pollreis from Kit Carson and Eads, but he moved to Denver about five years ago.

The quilts display that the ladies and County Commissioner Don Oswald helped the clerks set up looked great. It looks as if Phyllis Griswould must quilt 20 hours a day. She is happy to have one room of her new home in Eads for her quilting.

Carole Spady is another well-known quilter in this area. She especially donates her time to crafting and embroidering Quilts of Valor for service veterans. She travels to present them and arranges presentations of these lovely quilts to veterans.

As I looked at the display of quilts at the Kiowa County Fair, I knew that if I could, I would buy the lovely lavender-blue butterfly quilt made by Marni Rouse of Eads.

Wednesday was a special day for the monthly senior citizen lunch at the Eads Senior Citizen Center. Gail Voss, our director, prepared pork loin for the meal, while other ladies brought warm sweet potatoes in a long casserole dish with a nutty crunchy topping. Other types of potatoes and vegetables, salads, and many desserts were served. The program presenter was Randa Tice-Davis, a very interesting lawyer from Lamar who also serves senior citizens who contact her. She is available to advise or help you with questions you may have about wills, trusts, and money matters.

One of the most enjoyable times for residents of Prairie Pines Assisted Living Community in Eads and residents of Weisbrod Health was last Friday when we gathered at the Pines in their large dining room to listen to Johnny Leon of Tribune, Kansas, sing a concert of popular western love songs. It took a lot of work on the part of the Weisbrod staff to take two or three residents at a time to the gathering. Thank you!

Saturday was such a quiet day here…Brenda didn’t come over from Kansas! But we miss her. She has brought such good and lively times to us.

We are looking forward to an afternoon of activities with our second-grade friends Tuesday.

Homecoming at Eads High School is this week. Depending on when you read this, the traditional football game won’t happen this year because there were too many injuries. Some players are recovering, or others are playing with the Wiley team. However, there will be volleyball games Friday, along with the homecoming activities and the crowning of the king and queen. The homecoming dance will be Saturday.
