CBI assists La Junta police in standoff arrests on Raton Avenue

Two men were arrested Thursday, following a barricade standoff at the 1100 block of Raton Avenue in La Junta after one of them allegedly pointed a firearm at a neighbor.

La Junta Police officers responded at approximately 6:27 p.m. to reports of the incident. The two suspects, Tony Poland, 56, and his son James Poland, 29, barricaded themselves inside their apartment upon officer arrival. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation's Special Response Team was called in to assist. After officers obtained a search warrant for the residence, both suspects were taken into custody without further incident.

Tony Poland faces charges of felony menacing, resisting arrest, and failure to leave the premises upon request.

James Poland faces charges of attempted second degree burglary, felony menacing, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and failure to leave the premises upon request.

The Otero County Sheriff's Office and the La Junta Fire Department also assisted during the incident.
