Cheyenne Wells and the rest of Cheyenne County are in for a warm and largely dry five-day stretch beginning Wednesday, with highs climbing from the low 80s into the low 90s by the weekend, according to the National Weather Service forecast office in Goodland, Kan.

Wednesday is forecast to be sunny with a high near 83 degrees. Southerly winds are expected to increase from 5 to 15 mph in the morning to 15 to 25 mph by afternoon, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Skies turn cloudy overnight, with breezy southeast winds easing after midnight. The overnight low is forecast around 54.

Goodland forecasters described an active synoptic setup in the broader region. In Tuesday's Area Forecast Discussion issued at 4:36 p.m. MDT, Goodland meteorologists wrote that a 500-millibar trough was sweeping over the area, with "southerly moist advection" expected to produce precipitation across the forecast area beginning Wednesday afternoon, though the heaviest activity is expected to stay west and south of Cheyenne County. The discussion noted that "severe weather is not likely with this precipitation, but we cannot rule out a rogue gust up to 60 MPH or hail up to 1 inch."
