The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating a suspicious death after deputies with the Las Animas County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to an abandoned building near Country Rd. 44 and County Rd 61.5 on May 17, 2026, at approximately 1:42 p.m.

The deceased person has been identified as James Hedges (DOB 03-05-83) of Trinidad, Colorado. The incident occurred near the Ludlow Massacre Memorial Site about 15 miles north of Trinidad. Charges are merely accusations; all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
