County Line Rivals place first at Badger Invitational wrestling meet

The County Line Rivals came away with the Badger Invitational, held in Limon last Saturday with an impressive first place finish.  It was a team effort as the Rival’s tallied up 111.5 points, which was 10 points better than the second place team, Burlington.  Yuma finished third with 98.5 points.  Individual results are as follows.  

120 pounds – Tate Krentz had a first round bye; lost by pin to Michael Atencio from Rye in 0:37; won by technical fall over Jeremiah Nickle from Hanover, 15-0; won by pin over Jason Tafoya from unattached in 3:43; won by decision over Lane Wilfong, 11-6; and won by pin over Monte Pickering from Lyons in 3:07.  Krentz finished in 3rd place.

126 pounds (JV Bracket) – Chris Scranton lost by pin to Lavendar from Calhan in 3:29; lost by pin to Isaiash Camacho in 0:58; won by decision over Ethan Gerig from Rye, 10-6; lost by technical fall to Alex Holtork from Yuma, 17-2; lost by pin to Kaleb Phelps from Peyton in 0:45. Scranton was in a six-man round robin and finished in 5th place.

132 pounds – Jonathan Burbank suffered a first round loss to Michael Gutierrez from Burlington in 2:23; won by major decision over Matthew Frank from Merino, 12-3; lost by pin to Wenholz from Gilpin County in 0:40. Burbank did not place.

132 pounds (JV Bracket) – Samuel Adams lost by pin to Nanen Aguilar from Burlington in 0:19; won by pin over Daniel Kraemer from Peyton in 3:40; lost by pin to Seth Bergsma from Calhan in 1:35; lost by pin to Charles Balderas from Merino in 0:58; won by pin over Brendan Harmen from Trinidad in 0:27.   Adams was a 4thplace finisher for the day.

138 pounds – Aiden Michael won by pin over Samantha Krause-Mahan in 2:32; won by pin over Jesus Hernandez from Burlington in 5:13; lost by pin to Zeke Buker from Kiowa in 0:59; won by pin over Angel Gomez from Gilpin County in 4:35; and won by pin over Joey Ross from Yuma in 1:31.   Michael finished the tournament in 3rd Place.

145 pounds – Sam Wollert won by pin over Evan Worley from Cheyenne Wells in 5:22; lost by pin to Colton Murray from Peyton in 0:57; won by decision over Louden Blach from Yuma, 4-2; lost by decision to Mathew Mendoza from Swink, 6-2.  Wollert was unable to place.

152 pounds (JV) – Chris Torres lost by pin to Jared Bauer in 2:41; and lost by pin to Bradyn Tacha from Limon in 2:35.   Torres was unable to place.

152 pounds – Cade Zordel won by pin over Ryder Baessler from Wiggins in 3:54; lost by pin to Jaden Harris from Crowley County in 1:50; and lost by pin to Chance Claman from Peyton in 4:06.  Zordel was unable to place.

170 pounds – A. J. Wilk won by pin over Michael Ramos from Holoyke in 1:19; won by decision over Tyson Mireles from Burlington, 8-1; lost by decision to Derrick Poss from Akron, 7-2; won by pin over Michael Ramos from Holoyke in 4:44; and won by pin over Zach Auchterlonie from Crowley County in 0:59.  This was the first tournament back this season for Wilk and he pulled off a 3rdplace finish.

195 pounds – Dawson Roesch won by pin over Devin Knox from Sedgwick County Fleming in 0:23; won by pin over Chance Weining from Trinidad in 3:33; and won by decision over Karson Bean, 12-8.  Roesch was the tournament champion.

220 pounds – Jayce Bauer had a first round bye; won by pin over Pablo Enriquez from Burlington in 0:34; won by pin over Andrew Davis from Sedgwick County Fleming in 1:47; and won by decision over Devon Harshman from Wiggins, 3-1.  Bauer was the 220-pound tournament champion.

285 pounds – Chase Stolzenberger lost by pin to Trent Gramm from Burlington in 0:11; and lost by pin to Lars Sims from Yuma in 0:36.   Stolzenberger did not place.

This next week will be their last week of action before the Christmas break as they wrestle in Wiley on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. for a tri-meet and then travel to Holly for their annual tournament starting at 9:30 a.m.  Go Rivals!
