People who want to cut a Christmas tree at Golden Gate Canyon State Park can apply for a permit November 1-15. A lottery will award 250 permits for the annual tree cut on Saturday, December 5.

Permits are required and cost $35. Lottery winners will be notified after November 15. Credit cards will only be charged the $35 fee if the applicant's permit is drawn.

The tree cut will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It will take place in the designated area from the Nott Creek trailhead.

Any tree species may be cut. Power tools are not allowed, so visitors must use hand tools only. Trees must be carried back to a vehicle.

The Visitor Center will host a celebration with hot drinks, food, pictures with Santa Claus and ornament decorating. All retail items will also be on sale.

Visitors must have a state parks pass.

To enter the lottery, visit the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) Shop website and click on the "Visit a Park - Special Events - Christmas Tree Draw" tab.
