Colorado Governor Jared Polis appointed Nicholas J. Campbell to the Jefferson County Court in the 1st Judicial District on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Keith Goman.

The appointment is effective immediately. Campbell has served as a Magistrate in the 1st Judicial District since 2023, presiding over civil matters.

Prior to his magistrate role, Campbell was a Staff Attorney at the Colorado Education Association from 2022 to 2023. He served as Lead Deputy State Public Defender from 2018 to 2022 and Senior Deputy State Public Defender from 2017 to 2018 in the Golden Office of the Colorado State Public Defender. He previously worked as a Staff Attorney at Brooklyn Defender Services from 2016 to 2017, Deputy State Public Defender in the Colorado Springs Office from 2014 to 2016, and Deputy State Public Defender in the Montrose Office from 2011 to 2014.

Campbell earned his B.A. from Colorado College in 2008 and his J.D. from Vermont Law School in 2011.
