Gusts to 45 mph Wednesday, then heavy rain chances Thursday for Cheyenne County
Wednesday will be windy in Cheyenne Wells and Cheyenne County, and rain and thunderstorms move in overnight. The most widespread rain is expected Thursday, followed by drier weather Friday.
Wednesday brings mostly cloudy skies and a high near 73. South winds of 20 to 30 mph could gust as high as 45 mph, with the strongest gusts mainly late in the morning. There is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m.
"Locally heavy rainfall amounts (1-2") and localized flash flooding are possible in locations affected by multiple rounds of showers/storms," a meteorologist with the National Weather Service forecast office in Goodland, Kan., wrote in Wednesday's Area Forecast Discussion.
Rain peaks Thursday
Rain chances rise to 60 percent Wednesday night, with showers likely after 3 a.m. and a low around 57. Thursday brings an 80 percent chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 3 p.m.
The Goodland office said most or all of the Tri-State area should get measurable rain, most likely from about sunrise to sunset Thursday. Forecasters have low confidence in exact rain totals because storm placement varies from model to model. The Weather Prediction Center has most of the region in a marginal to slight risk of isolated flooding Wednesday and a marginal risk Thursday. No watches, warnings or advisories were in effect for Colorado counties in the Goodland area as of early Wednesday.
