Lamar can expect a brief chance of showers and thunderstorms late Wednesday before a stretch of hot, dry weather builds across Prowers County, with high temperatures rising from the mid 80s Wednesday to near 97 by Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.
Wednesday brings mostly cloudy skies and a high near 85, with a south wind of 5 to 10 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon and gusts to 30 mph. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives late, mainly between 11 p.m. and midnight, before skies turn mostly cloudy with an overnight low around 54. The chance of precipitation is 10 percent.
Forecasters expect storms across the area to stay disorganized. Thunderstorms “will likely stay poorly organized with locally heavy rainfall, small hail, and lightning the primary risks,” a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo wrote in Wednesday’s Area Forecast Discussion, adding that gusty outflow winds of up to 50 mph will be possible.
Heat builds through the weekend
Behind Wednesday’s system, drier air and an upper-level ridge bring a steady warm-up. The Weather Service expects only isolated thunderstorms Thursday and Friday before storm chances all but end heading into the weekend. Highs reach the low 90s Thursday and Friday and the mid to upper 90s Saturday and Sunday. No fire-weather watches or warnings are in effect for Prowers County, and the moist, storm-prone pattern is keeping fire danger low despite the rising heat.
