Highs near 89 degrees are forecast for Prowers County on both Saturday and Sunday, with gusty winds returning each night, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo. No Red Flag Warning is in effect, but warm, dry and windy conditions keep fire danger elevated.

Saturday should be sunny, with a high near 89 and south winds around 10 mph. Tonight will be clear and breezy, with a low around 53 and south winds of 15 to 20 mph, gusting as high as 45 mph. Saturday night will be partly cloudy and windy, with a low near 63 and south-southwest winds of 15 to 20 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph in the evening. Gusts could reach 45 mph.

“Moisture increases this weekend over the mountains, while the plains remain warm and dry,” a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo wrote in Friday’s Area Forecast Discussion.

Dry air and wind raise fire concerns

The Pueblo office listed no watches, warnings or advisories in its Friday afternoon discussion. Conditions were dry Friday afternoon, though. The Lamar airport reported 88 degrees, 13 percent humidity and south winds of 20 mph gusting to 26 mph at 3:53 p.m. Residents should use caution with outdoor burning and equipment that can throw sparks.
