Cheree Laird Mahan was born in 1954 and left this world in April 2023 after a brief illness. She was one of three children born to Robert and Dolores Laird.

She graduated from Eads High School and attended Western State College in Colorado, where she met the love of her life, William J. Mahan, III. They married in 1975.

Cheree was devoted to her two children; they were the center of her universe, and she raised them as a single mother after losing Bill in 1994. Cheree supported her family by working for the Northeast San Antonio Independent School District as a paraprofessional, working with special needs children for more than 20 years. Cheree’s shoes were hard to fill when she retired in 2018.

Cheree will be remembered for her tenacity, her resourcefulness, her loving and giving ways, as well as her green thumb. Nurturing and growing all things green were her passion. Cheree loved to camp, fish, and spend time with her grandchildren.

She loved to take trips with family and friends; seeing Alaska and Nashville were recent adventures for her. Cheree was an eternal Denver Broncos fan. She found comfort in surrounding herself with family treasures and loved her dogs and cats as family members. She enjoyed the ducks and hummingbirds, and once raised Koi fish in a water feature she built herself.

Cheree was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, husband, and a grandson.

She is survived by her children, Tabor (Carrie), and Molly Creswell (Bryan); brother, Terry (Areta); sister, Melodie Lloyd (Kirby); and their families.

A Celebration of Life was held June 10, 2023, in South Texas, and a second is planned this year for her Colorado family and friends.
