25 Years Ago - June 16, 2000

  • USDA Update- Rod Johnson: Due to the lack of precipitation and hot weather, a fire ban has been imposed on all of Kiowa County and many other counties in Colorado.

40 Years Ago - June 14, 1985

  • Kenneth and Alline Ritter’s “ole car” has won several trophies in the past few weeks. Their ole car is a replica of a 1908 Model “N” Ford which Kenneth built from scratch.
  • Ken, 69, & Jacque Proctor, 61, spent the night at the local motel. They will be candidates for the Guiness Book of Records as the oldest couple to bicycle around the world. They started their trip 8 years ago and are on the last leg of their trip

50 Years Ago - June 13, 1975

  • Due to nationwide shortage of nursing help, Weisbrod Memorial Hospital agreed to increase pay in hopes of enticing new help.

75 Years Ago - June 16, 1950

  • Because of the drought, large numbers of cattle are being shipped to Kansas. Cattlemen usually ship cattle to Kiowa County for summer pasture.

100 Years Ago - 1925

  • The boys at the town water and light plant in Eads were glad to see the rains come, for it gave them a rest from pumping water for a short time.
